Giovanbattista Fazzolari, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council and key figure of the government and FdI, spoke in a comprehensive interview with Libero about current affairs, starting with the issue of migrants. “I know that the electorate is disappointed and would have wanted immediate results. But we want to solve the problem definitively, even if it will take time to reverse the course after years of left-wing immigration policies. In Monday’s Council of Ministers, a strong novelty will be approved: those who illegally land in Italy will be held in supervised centers for a period that can last up to 18 months. Those who do not obtain international protection will be directly expelled. A strong deterrent to departures.”
Fazzolari also talks about the possible naval blockade: “It is the only real solution, as we have always said. The facts prove us right, we need to stop the mass of illegal immigrants from leaving, thanks to a EU mission carried out in agreement with the North African states. Without the promised money, Tunisia has difficulty in operating its police forces and coast guard. It is a fact. And the continuous attacks on the Tunisian government by the European left, which wants to declare Tunisia a state where immigrants cannot be detained or repatriated to Italy, certainly do not help.”
The undersecretary responds to the question of whether there is a suspicion that someone fears the success of FdI and Meloni in view of the European elections and possible changes in Brussels: “Let’s say that the Meloni government worries more than one in Europe. If Italy shows that a conservative government, composed of different center-right forces, can do well, it can create a chain reaction in several European states that could change the balance of the current EU.”
The truth about the Pnrr
No problem with the Pnrr, even though most of the money will have to be repaid, Fazzolari clarifies. “We were the second nation in terms of time to receive the third installment. In addition, the Commission allowed us to reshape the Pnrr, as we had requested from the beginning. It was essential to do so because we inherited a plan with major critical issues, full of unnecessary projects as well. The difficulties encountered with the Commission were about this. I would like to remind you that out of the 191 billion received, 122 will have to be repaid, and this limits the maneuvering space in the budget law, as they still affect the parameters of public deficit and debt. Of course, those who were in power at the time were able to say that they were bringing a lot of money to Italy…”
Budget law conditioned by the Superbonus: measures for the weaker classes
On the next budget law, Giovanbattista Fazzolari provides a comprehensive analysis: “We have to deal with the hole caused by the building bonuses created by Conte, Mr. Everything for free. It will cost the state an enormous amount, already quantified at 140 billion, an amount that is destined to increase. This is to renovate less than 4% of Italian properties, mostly second homes and luxury residences. A measure that has mainly benefited the wealthy but paid for with everyone’s money. The problem arose due to poorly conceived and poorly written regulations. The madness of a bonus exceeding 100%; unlimited transferability of credits; inadequate control mechanisms. And worse than anything else, criminogenic rules that have generated billions of irregular credits. A five-star gift for fraudsters.” However, “there will be a reduction in the tax wedge: we are proud to have put more than 100 euros per month in the paychecks of those earning up to 35,000 euros, to have extended the flat tax to the self-employed, and to have initiated tax reform.”
“Full harmony in the government: Italy is respected today”
Then, the analysis of the government and European dynamics, starting with Le Pen at Pontida: “Different political families coexist in the Italian center-right. Lega and Le Pen have been allies for a long time, I find nothing surprising about it. On the issue of immigration, as well as on all the main issues, there is full harmony among the members of the government. I have not read any attacks on the government but rather a defense of Salvini, who is undergoing a political and unfair trial.”
A final mention of international politics: “Many have difficulty understanding that we are true patriots and our choices, both nationally and internationally, are made following this one compass. Today, this means standing tall within our Western alliances, demonstrating that Italy has become a serious and reliable nation again. Starting with full support for Ukraine in the face of the imperialist aggression war of the Russian Federation. The defense of identity and Western values has always been an element that has characterized the political battles of FdI and Giorgia Meloni.”
