Edoardo Stanchi, CEO of the business area and technical director of Atletico Lodigiani, also deals with Serie A and players like Edoardo Bove. Stanchi spoke about the young Giallorossi player and many other topics in an interview with Romanewes.eu.
In the first three matches, how did you see Roma?
“In the first three matches, it was a negative surprise: 1 point in three matches against beatable teams is a problem. I was happy for Belotti. Verona is doing very badly, I didn’t expect it. Yes, it’s a great city, but you have to win in Verona. With Milan, it was expected. They will definitely compete for the title with Napoli and Inter. Right now, Roma is not doing well.”
The relationship between Lodigiani and Roma
“For me, being the CEO and technical director of Lodigiani is a privilege. It’s an important project, and we need to grow and develop the players. We are now working more closely with Roma and Lazio. We will have friendly matches, and the partnership with the Giallorossi is important. We want to bring the team to the professional level. You always learn from more experienced people, and the Roma brand is a guarantee.”
Do you see Bove staying at Roma for a long time?
“For Edoardo, the contract renewal will be discussed soon. He is an exceptional young man with strong principles, a die-hard Roma fan, which is very important for us Romanisti. If he starts playing well now, he can even take a starting position. He has nothing to envy Paredes and Sanches, whom I would never have signed even if Tiago Pinto insisted on it. I see Bove playing well alongside Cristante, and I think he will play on Sunday.”
Do you think there is a possibility of Mourinho being sacked?
“I don’t believe in his sacking. Mourinho is a person of values, a great professional who has won everything and more. The environment has changed, it’s true. There is no longer the euphoria that was there before the final. Roma must qualify for the Champions League, and they can do it. With the hope that Dybala and Lukaku can play together, and with Juve-Lazio and Inter-Milan matches, you can recover points. Not qualifying for the Champions League would be a failure.”
Do you have contacts with the Arab world?
“I have known the Arab world since 2009. It is a golden world, but not as much as people think. Al-Tani wanted to buy Sampdoria, but it was not possible. We will establish a connection with Saudi Arabia and the Al-Tani group.”
Do you think the Al-Tani group could enter the picture for Roma?
“Al-Tani will not buy Roma now. In Italy, I represent this group along with Bevilacqua. He wants to buy another team, which is a bit more difficult. We need to provide better service to the client. We have been in negotiations with an English team for a long time. There are no offers for Roma, it is not for sale, and it is not looking for buyers unless the stadium is built.”
How important is it for Roma to have their own stadium?
“I have seen all the most beautiful stadiums in the world, and having a stadium of your own is pure oxygen, income, and visibility. I don’t think it will happen by 2027 due to problems in politics and excessive bureaucracy, which discourages investors. It is completely different abroad. In Spain and England, it’s a different world. After COVID, the number of fans has increased, but owning stadiums is important. We are working on a project.”
How do you see Roma in the Coppa Italia?
“I hope they can win the Coppa Italia, which is easier than qualifying for the Champions League. It would be a dream come true. For a young player, wearing the Roma shirt with the star is something they will always remember. If they face the derby, it would be great, even though I was there on May 26. It would be a beautiful revenge to beat them this year.”
What do you think about the rumors of Conte and Totti joining Roma?
“Totti is more likely. Conte will not come to Roma, I can confirm that. I was already sure that Spalletti would go to the national team. Next year, many coaching positions will be available, and it won’t be easy for Conte with his salary. I know for certain that he will not come to Roma.”
Boniek or Totti in the club?
“Totti represents Roma, so I would choose him. Boniek is a great professional, but Roma needs more people like Totti. Boniek is a great person, but I would choose Maldini over him.”
Who do you see close to Mourinho?
“In my opinion, Totti would be the closest to Mourinho. Mourinho is volcanic, and Totti is resilient. Mourinho could leave, but Totti would stay at Roma. It would be an excellent growth path for the captain because you learn a lot from Mourinho.”
Does Roma need a “fan” player?
“I would see Edoardo Bove as a great fit. Cristante is the silent leader, and no one wants to play him, but all the coaches make him play. I don’t see Pellegrini as Totti and De Rossi. Pellegrini is a good player, but not a superstar or a leader. He is like being in space and on Earth at the same time. He hasn’t done much yet.”
How would you feel about Nainggolan returning?
“I saw him at the Roma Salernitana match, sitting near me in the stands. He can’t stay at Roma. Roma should focus on Bove. As a fan, I would be happy if he returns, but Roma doesn’t need people like Radja.”
And on the sidelines with Mourinho?
“It would be fun to see him as Mourinho’s team manager, but I think it would be very difficult. Radja will do something else in life. He could return to amateur football.”
De Rossi as a coach at Roma in the new stadium…
“I see De Rossi as a director. He can have another career. He is a clean and direct
